Setup email on mail clients such as Outlook, Mac Mail and mobile or tablet devices.
First, determine whether you want to setup these accounts as POP3 or IMAP. POP works best if you use only a single desktop computer. IMAP is designed work with multiple computers, tablets, and smart phones. Here is a great resource to explain these differences a little bit more, and help you switch from POP3 to IMAP if desired.
For PC Users
1. Open Outlook
2. Under Account Settings select Add and remove accounts or change…
3. If setting up new account, follow setup wizard. When you get to this page be sure to select MANUALLY CONFIGURE server settings.
4. On the next page choose Internet E-mail and click Next.
5. That will bring you to this page to enter your settings and make your IMAP or POP3 selection. See specific settings below.
Your Name
Enter your first and last name.
E-mail Address
Enter your e-mail address.
Account Type
Select POP or IMAP
Incoming Mail Server (POP3)
Enter mail.yoursite.com
Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)
Enter mail.yoursite.com
User Name
Enter your full e-mail address
Password
Enter the password for your email account.
Do not click Next! Instead, click MORE SETTINGS which will open a new window.
6. In the Outgoing Server tab, adjust your settings to match those shown in the image.
7. Next, click the Advanced tab and based on your IMAP or POP3 preference, refer to the settings below image.
IMAP
Incoming server: 143
Use the following type of encrypted connection: None
Outgoing server: 587
Use the following type of encrypted connection: None
POP3
Incoming server: 110
This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL): Unchecked
Outgoing server: 587
Use the following type of encrypted connection: None
Important: Under ‘Delivery’ it’s a good idea to check ‘Leave a copy of message on server’ but leave the two lines below unchecked.
8. Click ‘OK’ then ‘Next’ and ‘Finish’ to complete new email setup.
For Mac Users
1. Open up Mail.app and press Command+Comma to invoke the Preferences window.
2. Switch to the “Accounts” pane and press the + button in the lower-left corner.
3. Under “Account Information”, fill out the following information:
- Account Type: POP or IMAP
- Email Address: email-name@your-domain-name.com
- Incoming Mail Server: mail.your-domain-name.com
- Username: email-name@your-domain-name.com
- Password: your email password
- Note that POP uses port 110 and IMAP uses port 143
4. Select “Add Server…” from the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) pop-up menu. Here are the details for it:
- Outgoing Mail Server: mail.your-domain-name.com
- Server port: 587
- Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL): NO
- Authentication: password
- User Name: email-name@your-domain-name.com
- Password: your email password
- Dismiss the window by pressing “OK.”
5. Back in the “Accounts” panel, switch to the “Advanced” tab and do not check the box marked “Use SSL” towards the bottom.
